“Country radio, you guys have absolutely changed our lives,” declared DAN + SHAY’s SHAY MOONEY, accepting the Single Of The Year honor for “Tequila” at last night’s (4/7) “54TH ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS” in LAS VEGAS. The duo dominated the awards, also winning Song Of The Year for “Tequila” and Duo Of The Year. In addition to the wins as an artist, the duo’s DAN SMYERS received two individual wins, as a producer in the Single category and as a songwriter in the Song category.
KACEY MUSGRAVES won two awards: Female Artist and Album Of The Year for “Golden Hour.” It was her first win in the Female Artist category and second album win. KEITH URBAN was named Entertainer Of The Year for the first time. And THOMAS RHETT won Male Artist Of The Year, his second in a category he previously won in 2017.
In the hours prior to the telecast, OLD DOMINION was named Group Of The Year, their second consecutive win in the category, and DIERKS BENTLEY and BROTHERS OSBORNE’S “Burning Man” was named Music Event Of The Year. Sharing the honor in the latter category are label CAPITOL RECORDS NASHVILLE and producers ROSS COPPERMAN, JON RANDALL STEWART and ARTURO BUENAHORA JR. Also announced prior to the show: CHRIS JANSON won Video Of The Year for “Drunk Girl,” sharing the honor with director JEFF VENABLE and producer BEN SKIPWORTH. Show host REBA MCENTIRE surprised JANSON with the news backstage. OLD DOMINION got word of their win from songwriter/producer SHANE MCANALLY on the red carpet.
As previously announced (NET NEWS 3/6), JASON ALDEAN was awarded the ACM’s DICK CLARK Artist Of The Decade prize. Previously-announced winners in the new artist categories (NET NEWS 3/25) were LUKE COMBS (New Male Artist), ASHLEY MCBRYDE (New Female Artist), and LANCO (New Group). All four of those winners were among the night’s performers.
